I created this slideshow for a costume redesign of the classic Dracula movie. I really wanted this to be a darker version of the story, centering on the inner torment and hatred that Dracula has for himself. I chose Mina's color palette to oppose Dracula's in order to paint her in an innocent, misguided light. I wanted the audience to understand that she is so taken by Dracula that she forgoes her own instincts. For Van Helsing, I chose to make him into a wise sage type of character to show how much experience he has with the supernatural.
This slideshow is for the short story "The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas," which is about a fictional city that is unbelievably prosperous and filled with every luxury, but only because in the basement of the public building, they keep a naked, suffering child. For this piece, I chose to highlight the excessive wealth of the city with gold and silver paved stones lining the streets, as well as large, grand buildings inspired by a mishmash of different real locations and time periods so it would not be recognizable and could cross into the realm of fantasy.
