Still Life

Inspired by a young artist who moves in next door to him, Max, a washed up alcoholic who was once a famous painter, attempts to complete his life's work.
For this project, I really tried to emphasize the stark differences between Max and Lucy's lives. I chose warm, bold colors for Lucy because of how much fire her character had and how passionate she was. For Max, that passion had drained away over years of self-abuse, so I centered his color palette around cooler and darker colors. This also added a nice contrast to the warm color of alcohol that he drinks throughout the film.
I added reminders of Max's wife in his apartment to show the audience how much his past is getting in the way of who he is now and how hurt he still is over her death. Of course, Lucy's apartment in comparison is very minimal and only stocked with the absolute essentials for her to continue her passion.
